STATE OF LSSHRM REPORT JANUARY 2017
Last year was at times a very trying year but a year from which we learned a lot about the strength of our organization and the dedication of our members. When I am asked how I felt about the year I often quip, “While it was close, nobody went to jail.” What I mean by that is that we as an organization had strayed from sound accounting principles and a lot of controls had slipped. We were asked by HR Florida and SHRM undergo an outside audit and to correct deficiencies.
I am proud to say the Board hung behind me and we have done just that! We have purchased “new” accounting software which allows our Treasurer to track every income and every expense. We have submitted the required government paperwork to maintain our not for profit status. We have instituted a travel policy that outlines exactly how anyone traveling for LSSHRM is to spend your funds and what receipts must they produce.
